With over $4 billion of private and public capital invested within the 1.5 square mile area of downtown, development is an important issue. Nearly 83,000 are employed in the area, and 10 million people visit the cultural, sports and entertainment venues each year. Yet, as the nation’s fifth largest city, Phoenix has never really had a very dense urban nucleus or the same draw as other peer cities. Three men have been trying to change that.
