SkySong Wins Two “Best of NAIOP” Awards

SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, continues to gain recognition as one of the premier economic engines in the Valley.

SkySong received a Best of NAIOP Award as Economic Impact Project of the Year and as Spec Office Building of the Year (for SkySong 3) at NAIOP Arizona’s award event on March 19th.

The Best of NAIOP Awards are one of the premier awards given out in the development and real estate community in Arizona. NAIOP Arizona is the trade association representing the commercial real estate industry in Arizona, and is part of a large national organization that promotes real estate and development across the country.

SkySong has been one of the most successful and award-winning commercial real estate projects in the Valley in the past decade, reaching nearly full occupancy during the economic downturn. According to studies by the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, SkySong is projected to generate more than 5,500 jobs and $9.4 billion in economic impact over a 30-year period. SkySong’s three office buildings will house more than 1,500 employees, and pre-leasing is already underway for SkySong 4, the next planned office building for the project.

SkySong 3 is already 90 percent leased despite having just opened fully in January. The iconic 145,000 square foot building is home to several cutting-edge companies and a large conference center run by ASU. Recently, SkySong 3 has also received LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, and also received the RED Award for Best Mixed Use Project in 2015.

“We are very pleased that SkySong not only continues to attract companies that thrive on entrepreneurship and technology, but also continues to be recognized as a premier commercial real estate development,” said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies, the master developer of SkySong. “We are very proud to receive these Best of NAIOP Awards and to be recognized by our peers in the industry for creating an exceptional project.”

SkySong is a 42-acre mixed use development designed to:

• Create an ecology of collaboration and innovation among high-profile technology enterprises and related researchers;

• Advance global business objectives of on-site enterprises;

• Raise Arizona’s profile as a global center of innovation through co-location of ASU’s strategic global partners; and

• Create a unique regional economic and social asset.

Companies located at SkySong enjoy a special relationship with Arizona State University, which has more than 82,000 students studying across four metropolitan Phoenix campuses, in Lake Havasu and online. ASU is one of the largest public universities in the nation, with the majority of its students attending its campus in Tempe, Arizona, less than three miles from SkySong.

In addition to locating its own innovative research units at the center, ASU provides tenants with direct access to relevant research, educational opportunities and cultural events on its campuses. Through ASU’s on-site operations, tenant companies have a single point of contact for introductions to researchers, faculty and programs to address their specific needs.
