Common Bond Development Group, the real estate development company behind the up and coming The Plant in Chandler, has begun construction this month on the pedestrian-friendly and uniquely designed retail center.
Spanning roughly eight acres on the southeast corner of Gilbert Road and Ocotillo Road, The Plant will be anchored by a Sprouts Farmers Market along side a mixture of retail and restaurant tenants.
Developer Brian Frakes, principal, of Common Bond along with local architects SUITE 6 Architecture + Planning and Cawley Architects, landscape architect GK Flanagan Associates, and contractor GCON are working in concert to bring The Plant to fruition by late Summer 2016.
As a pedestrian friendly retail center, The Plant will have attractive pathways highlighted by seat walls, unique planting and shade trees.
Surrounding shops will have farmhouse-inspired chevron roofs and open-air arcades along the fronts with wood, brick, and metal accents.
“The intention is to elevate the shopping center experience,” said Frakes, Principal at Common Bond. “Making it more about the convenience of walking rather than driving around; plus, providing a unique exterior design with lots of trees and greenery.”
Frakes notes that while bringing an identity to a retail center isn’t fast or cheap, that creating this unique destination for surrounding communities is the incentive behind The Plant.
The Plant team also plans on working with the City of Chandler to incorporate a public art element that celebrates the agricultural heritage of the area – an underlying theme of the overall look and feel of the development.
