With over $4 billion of private and public capital invested within the 1.5 square mile area of downtown, development is an important issue. Nearly 83,000 are employed in the area, and 10 million people visit the cultural, sports and entertainment venues each year. Yet, as the nation’s fifth largest city, Phoenix has never really had a very dense urban nucleus or the same draw as other peer cities. Three men have been trying to change that. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Larry Lazarus, Phoenix zoning attorney and Mike Ebert, managing partner and one of the founders of RED Development.

Velocity Launches New Sale/Leasback Division

Velocity Retail Group has created a new Sales/Leaseback Division to add to their already full range of services. The division will be led by Daniel Rice, Executive Managing Director, and Andy Begal, Managing Director. The two of them, formerly with Spirit Finance, have successfully completed over $1.2 billion in retail and restauraunt sale/leasebacks. The new division will focus on sale/leaseback solutions for big box retailers, grocery chains, drug stores and restaurants.

 

CB Richard Ellis Names Bryce Terveen Rookie of the Year for Western Division

CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) has selected Bryce Terveen, an office properties specialist in Phoenix, as its 2009 Rookie of the Year for the company’s Western Division. Terveen, who was recently promoted to senior associate, is part of a five-member commercial real estate team that completed more than 34 sale and lease transactions in 2009, representing 582,240 square feet of office space and more than $154 million in consideration. Terveen has successfully developed and implemented effective real estate strategies that support his clients’ business objectives. He focuses his attention on tenant representation. In 2009 Terveen  executed several significant transactions with companies such as Wells Fargo Bank, Ports America Inc. and Davis Miles PLLC.

“Bryce is a highly motivated young professional who has found success in a tough market,” said Craig Henig, senior managing director. Prior to joining CBRE in 2005, Terveen enjoyed a successful six-year career as a professional baseball player, catching for the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners.  He is also active within his community and church.

 

Will Strong Is Cushman & Wakefield’s Phoenix  Rookie Of The Year

Will Strong has been named 2009 Rookie of the Year for the Phoenix office of Cushman & Wakefield.  Strong, along with his team, completed over 3.5 million square feet of lease and sales transactions during the year including the two largest industrial sales in Phoenix. Strong, specializes in helping owners, developers and occupiers of industrial real estate.

In 2009, Strong was involved in the representation of several major tenants in the Phoenix area including Pilkington North America, one of the nation’s largest manufacturer of windows and doors; Pilot Freight Services, which has more than 75 U.S. locations; and DirecTV, for which he helped locate their brand new Arizona facility.  He also negotiated on behalf of numerous institutional landlords including ING Clarion Partners, BlackRock Realty, and Mountain West Industrial Properties.
